Type Locality and Naming

SW Algeria. E flank of Jebel Berga syncline

Synonym: Once named In R’ar Fm (Wendt et al., 2008). Djebei Berga Fm, Djebei Berga Limestone.

Lithology and Thickness

The Calcaires du Djebel Bega Fm is about 350m thick and is made up of marine limestones. Its base is an alternation of sandstones and limestones, which are overlain by massive calcareous bed containing brachiopods and polyparies, with levels of fine sandstones and claystones (Conrad, 1973; Derder et al., 2009).

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

It conformably overlies the Gres de Garet Dehb Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Hassi Bachir Fm. in the Reggane Basin, and conformably overlain by the Gypses d’Hassi Taibine Fm. in the Ahnet Basin.
